And now the curtains open on Taksim Gezi Park.
It is by now clear who is the enemy confronting us; this time it is trees of Gezi in Taksim square that the factory of lies of our Government is swallowing, for the sake of making more space for yet more shopping malls and business areas. And those who oppose it are tortured at sunrise, burnt in their tents by the police who surrounded our park last night.Such is the arrogance of sovereign power. They call this development; they call it growth. But for whom? What is Erdogan promising us by taking away our main public square and its park? another luxury space we will never be able to afford? Another pedestrian area where public gathering will be forbidden? They want us to believe that their powers are coming from the past and taking us into the future. But they are searching for this future in neat squares which are void of any people, in shopping centers stealing our souls, in the boredom of four domestic walls.

But we are also here. We are in the depths of Gezi Park, under the trees, on top of the branches. We are here to refuse land grabs turning citizen spaces into private profit; we are here to oppose the looting of our rivers in the most distant parts of the country, we are here to protect our lives from being sucked into a world without soul.We are here because we reject oppression, we are here because we stand against capitalist dispossession. We are here because we shall not let them grab our commons, and crumble our lives in between business and catastrophic futures. The discourse of our rulers is no more working. The wheel is chirring, we can hear that. Each and every minute there is one person more turning against this sack.
We claim our lives and our present. We discovered that we are much more than we thought – that we are mightier than we thought. We are on the branches of Taksim Gezi Park, we are in the waters of Çamlıhemşin’in and Dersim, we are in the seas of Dikili and on the stones of Amed in Diyarbakir .
And if you listen carefully, you will hear each other.
Gezi is Ours! Istanbul is ours!
